The National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Ltd. is moving ahead with construction of its new La Salette branch at Pointe Michel, with Phase One of the project now at an advanced stage and running three weeks ahead of the contractor's schedule.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony in January 2026, works have progressed from foundation excavation to the erection of walls and concrete columns, along with the placement of steel reinforcement and formwork at the first-floor level. The project's contractor is Roy C Construction Limited.
NCCU Project Manager Hillarian Jules said the pace and quality of the work have been pleasing, and that the building is being positioned as a flagship facility for the credit union. «We look at the work schedule of the contractor and we are still three weeks ahead of schedule so a lot of work has been done. We are all pleased with the quality and speed of the work,» Jules said. «The building on a whole is really a flagship for NCCU. It will be outfitted with modern amenities and aesthetics.»
Phase One is scheduled for completion by April 2027. By the end of that year, the two-storey building is expected to be substantially completed. Phase Two will then cover electrical and plumbing works, as well as the installation of IT infrastructure, with completion expected in line with the contractor's overall schedule.
The new branch is designed as a state-of-the-art facility and will introduce several services to the Pointe Michel area for the first time, including an ATM and a night safe deposit. The building will also be equipped with solar panels to provide backup power, reflecting a growing emphasis on energy resilience in the credit union's operations.
Other planned amenities include a member lobby, a lower-level counter designed for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, and a sick bay for staff. These features are intended to improve accessibility and comfort for members and employees alike.
Once complete, the La Salette branch is expected to better serve Pointe Michel and surrounding communities, bringing modern banking and cooperative services closer to residents in the south of the island. The project forms part of NCCU's wider investment in its branch network and in the communities it serves.
NCCU has not announced a revised opening date beyond the contractor's schedule, but officials say the works remain on track for the targeted completion timeline.
