The National Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Ltd. has reported that construction of its new La Salette branch at Pointe Michel has reached an advanced stage, with the project now running three weeks ahead of schedule.

Since the groundbreaking ceremony in January 2026, Phase One of the project has moved from foundation works to the erection of walls and concrete columns. The credit union confirmed the progress in a press release, noting that significant work has already been completed on the site.

The La Salette branch is part of NCCU's ongoing expansion to better serve its membership in the south-western part of the island. Pointe Michel, a coastal village just south of Roseau, is home to a growing population and serves as a gateway to the island's southern communities.

The new branch is expected to bring NCCU's services closer to residents who currently travel to Roseau or other branches for their banking needs. The credit union has not yet announced an official opening date, but the accelerated pace of construction suggests the facility could be operational sooner than initially planned.

NCCU is one of Dominica's largest financial cooperatives, with a membership that spans the island and the diaspora. The La Salette branch is the latest in a series of investments aimed at strengthening the credit union's physical presence and improving access to financial services.

The project has also provided employment opportunities for local construction workers and contractors. While the exact number of jobs created has not been disclosed, the credit union has emphasised its commitment to using local labour and materials where possible.

Residents of Pointe Michel and surrounding communities have welcomed the development, which is seen as a boost to the local economy. The branch is expected to offer a full range of services, including savings, loans, and member services.

NCCU has indicated that further updates on the project's progress will be provided as construction continues. The credit union thanked its members for their patience and support during the building phase.

The La Salette branch is one of several infrastructure projects NCCU has undertaken in recent years as it seeks to modernise its operations and expand its footprint across the Commonwealth of Dominica. The credit union remains a key player in the island's cooperative movement, which has a long history of supporting community development.

With construction now ahead of schedule, NCCU members in the Pointe Michel area can look forward to a new, modern facility that will enhance their banking experience and bring essential financial services closer to home.
