Bernicia Oscar, née Honoré, of Woodfordhill, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday 4 September 2026 at the age of 69. Known to family and friends as «Aunty Bobone» or «Aunty B», she was a devoted mother, loving wife, cherished grandmother, beloved aunt and dear friend whose warmth, strength and spirit touched all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Oscar, her children Ryan Oscar and Nagesha Oscar, and her grandchild Malakhi Oscar. She also leaves adopted children Samara Hypolite, Christabel Benjamin, Joshua Benjamin and Miliana Aristhomene, and adopted grandchildren Kemisha, Kelisha, Abimael and Amiel.
Mrs Oscar was one of a large and widely scattered family. Her sisters are Shirley Honoré in St Thomas and Vina Telemaque in Anguilla. Her brothers are Alick Lewis in St Thomas, Hubert Honoré in Antigua, Wilson «Dene Boy» Honoré in Dominica and Garnet Honoré in Miami. She also leaves sisters- and brothers-in-law Miranda, Judy, Joan, Fama, Glenda and Ivolyn Honoré, Marvelyn «Gussie» Benjamin, Seraphine «Petite Ma'am» Jno Jules, John Philbert, Warrington Breedy and Monty Telemaque.
Her many nieces include Candia Philbert, Tiffany Shabree Richards, Sherna Honoré, Jewel Honoré, Kervel Honoré, Chrisel Telemaque, Valarie Honoré, Shanice Honoré, Shaniah Honoré, Kerthea Honoré, Abigail Honoré, Anel Honoré, Alana Honoré, Alixia Lewis, Sylvie Dominique, Monic Africa, Kethlyn Africa, Eden, Shayana Honoré, Murium Degallerie and Rita Turney. Her nephews are Richardson, Dale and Kerdean Lewis; Wayne, Ian, Kerel, Kirbert, Lennison, Sherlon, Gem and Zane Honoré; Chris Philbert, Joshua Breedy and Abiel Telemaque.
She was godmother to Renoldson Africa, Clint Wallace, Caddie Connor, Abiel Telemaque, Cherryan Abraham, Brenick Ellick and Tanica Ambo. Among her relatives were Anelta Abraham, Gladys Wallace, Godfrey Africa and family, Marilyn Moses, Janet Magloire, Daisy George, Veronin Bruno, Nashibo Benjamin, Lonita Honoré, Anaclette «Keto» Williams, James «Sweetie Boy» Dejean, Viola Honoré, Felix Honoré, Francis Honoré, Vena Peters, Marietta Thomas, Joslyn Wright and Marvelyn Breedy, along with the Honoré family in Portsmouth, Vieille Case, Thibaud and Penville, and the Benjamin and Honoré family in Woodfordhill and Wesley.
Close friends named by the family include Weeferly Jules, Claudia Carbon, Frisca Hypolite, Mathilda Dyer, Maria Pascal, Isaiah Joseph, Marcia Benjamin, Oliver and Annemarie Wallace, Sherma Galloway, Charles Richards, Mickela Richards, Nahyar James, Millicent Coipel, Whitney «Coco» Thomas, Francis «Blackie» Reed, Pearl Francis, Jacyntha Nicholas, Nelissa Shillingford and Exilie Dick. Pastor Oliver Wallace, Pastor Wilson and members of the Woodfordhill Christian Union Church also survive her, as does her caretaker Ann Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isla «Yah-yo» Honoré and Charles «Charlo» Honoré, and by her siblings Bernadette Gistine Philbert, Bervilia Honoré-Breedy, Lennox John «Corky» Honoré, Answorth Honoré, Gabriel Ashley Honoré and John Lockhart Lewis.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday 19 September 2026 at the Woodford Hill Christian Union Church at 1:00pm, with interment at the Pentecostal cemetery in Londonderry. The family said her light will shine in their hearts forever.
