Martinican artist Maureen Voyer was the first performer to take the stage at the start of the 26th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) on October 23, and she described the experience as a very good one. It was also her first time performing at the festival.
Her opening set marked the beginning of the festival's programme, which brings Creole music and artists from across the region to Dominica each year. Voyer's appearance gave the festival an early showcase for Martinican Creole music, a tradition closely linked to Dominica's own kweyol heritage.
Dominican artist Colton T also reflected on the challenges he encountered during his performance. The report focuses on his candid assessment of the difficulties he faced on stage, which he shared after his appearance at the festival.
The World Creole Music Festival is one of the highlights of Dominica's cultural calendar and draws visitors from the diaspora and the wider Caribbean. Performances across its nights reflect the shared musical traditions of the Creole-speaking Caribbean, from bouyon and zouk-influenced sounds to other regional forms.
