Organisers of the World Creole Music Festival say preparations for this year's event have entered a critical phase, with attention now fixed on delivering three nights of entertainment when the festival opens on October 23.
The Dominica Festivals Coordinator told a press briefing on October 8 that planning has moved beyond scheduling and into execution, as the team works through the final logistics for the event. The coordinator said the focus is on making sure the three nights run smoothly for patrons, performers and the many workers and vendors who depend on the festival.
The World Creole Music Festival is one of the flagship events on Dominica's cultural calendar, drawing audiences from across the island and the diaspora, as well as visitors from neighbouring Caribbean territories. It is traditionally staged around the Independence season, when Roseau and the wider island host a dense programme of Creole music, dance and heritage activities.
Organisers did not announce any change to the opening date. The festival is set to begin on October 23, with the three nights of entertainment forming the centrepiece of the programme. The briefing was held to update the public and media on where preparations stand as the countdown continues.
For Dominica, the festival carries significance beyond the stage. It brings together the island's kweyol heritage with contemporary Creole and world music, and it provides work for musicians, technicians, security staff, caterers, transport operators and vendors. Hotels, guest houses and tour operators also look to the festival period as one of the busiest stretches of the year.
The coordinator's remarks suggest that the remaining work is largely operational: confirming arrangements on the ground, coordinating with service providers and ensuring that the venues and support systems are ready for the crowds expected across the three nights. With the opening now only weeks away, organisers say they are concentrating on the details that determine how smoothly the event unfolds.
Further updates are expected as the festival approaches. Patrons and residents are advised to follow official channels for confirmed information on the programme, ticketing and any changes to arrangements.
