The Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO) has announced a scheduled service interruption that will affect customers in Brentridge, Penrice, Belles, Wet Area and Gleau Gomier on Friday, October 2nd, 2026.
According to the company, the water supply in those communities will be cut between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to allow DOWASCO to carry out works on its system. The interruption is expected to last six hours, and normal supply should return once the work is completed.
DOWASCO has apologised to customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the shutdown will cause. The company is advising residents and businesses in Brentridge, Penrice, Belles, Wet Area and Gleau Gomier to make arrangements to store water before the interruption begins on Friday morning.
The notice covers a cluster of communities in the island's interior, where households, small businesses and farmers rely on the piped supply for daily use. With the shutdown falling in the middle of the day, customers who need water for cooking, cleaning or livestock are being urged to fill containers and other storage ahead of 9:00 a.m.
DOWASCO has not said whether the works are related to repairs, maintenance or an upgrade of the network, but the company described the interruption as necessary to carry out the scheduled activity. It has committed to restoring service as soon as the work is finished, although customers in higher elevations or at the end of the line may experience a short delay while pressure returns to the system.
The announcement follows the standard practice used by DOWASCO when planned works require sections of the network to be taken offline. Customers are usually given advance notice so that they can prepare, and the company asks that taps be left closed during the outage to avoid waste when supply resumes.
Residents in the five named areas who have questions about the interruption can contact DOWASCO directly. The company has asked customers to pass on the information to neighbours who may not have seen the notice, particularly elderly residents and others who may need assistance storing water.
DOWASCO says it regrets the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience and understanding while the works are carried out.
