Customers served by the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company (DOWASCO) from Mero to Castle Comfort will have their water supply interrupted on Thursday, October 1, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The utility says the six-hour shutdown is needed to carry out system maintenance across the WA1 service area, which covers communities along the west coast from Mero in the north to Castle Comfort just south of Roseau.
DOWASCO has not said what specific work will be done or whether any areas will be excluded from the interruption. The notice applies to all customers in the WA1 zone.
Residents and businesses in the affected communities are advised to store water ahead of the shutdown and to plan for the loss of supply during the six-hour window. Those who depend on a continuous supply — including households with young children, elderly residents, and small businesses such as restaurants, guesthouses and shops — should make arrangements before 9:00 a.m. on October 1.
The utility has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their understanding. DOWASCO has not announced any alternative supply arrangements, such as water trucks or standpipes, for the period of the interruption.
The WA1 area includes Mero, Jimmit, Mahaut, Massacre, Canefield, Goodwill, Roseau and Castle Comfort, among other communities. A daytime interruption across that stretch affects a large number of households and commercial customers.
DOWASCO routinely schedules maintenance during daytime hours to reduce the impact on customers, but the utility has not provided further details on the scope of the work. Customers with questions about the interruption are advised to contact DOWASCO directly.
The company said it sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the scheduled service interruption.
