The National Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU) has issued a public notice of judgment requiring Chanel Sylvia Peter-Daniel to appear in court, as the credit union moves to enforce a judgment against the debtor.

The notice, published as a formal announcement, is a legal step open to the NCCU under the rules governing the enforcement of debt judgments in the Commonwealth of Dominica. It calls on the named debtor to appear before the court at a date and time to be fixed by the court, so that the matter can be dealt with according to law.

The NCCU is one of the island's principal co-operative financial institutions, serving members across Dominica and in the diaspora. Like other credit unions and lending bodies, it may seek a judgment order when a loan or other obligation remains unpaid after the usual recovery steps have been taken.

A notice of judgment for a debtor to appear is a standard part of that process. It is not a criminal charge, and it does not by itself determine any question of guilt. It is a civil enforcement step, and the person named is entitled to appear and to be heard by the court.

Members of the public who are not party to the matter have no role in the proceedings. The notice is directed to the named debtor, and the court will deal with the case on its own facts.

The announcement was carried in the usual public notices section, where such legal advertisements are placed so that the person concerned and the wider public are properly informed. Publishing the notice is part of the requirement that a debtor be given notice before enforcement steps proceed.

For credit union members and borrowers generally, the case is a reminder of the importance of keeping loan accounts in good standing and of responding promptly to any correspondence from a lending institution. Where a member is having difficulty meeting payments, early contact with the credit union is normally the best course, since arrangements can often be discussed before a matter reaches the court.

The NCCU has not issued any further statement on the matter beyond the notice itself. The court will set the date on which Chanel Sylvia Peter-Daniel is to appear, and the matter will proceed from there in the ordinary way.

Dominica 1 will carry further confirmed details if and when they are made public by the credit union or by the court.
