The Dominica Athletics Association Inc. (DAA Inc.) will stage the second installment of its 2026 Road Race Series in the Grand Bay area on Sunday, October 11, taking participants through sections of the south-eastern community.
The series, which began earlier this year, is part of the association's ongoing programme to develop distance running and provide competitive opportunities for athletes across the island. The Grand Bay event follows the opening race of the 2026 calendar and is expected to draw runners from the south and other parts of Dominica.
Athletes are being encouraged to take part in the race, which forms part of the DAA's efforts to promote fitness and competitive athletics at community level. The association has been working to build a consistent road racing circuit that gives local runners regular events to target throughout the year.
Grand Bay, also known as Berekua, is one of Dominica's larger southern communities and has a strong tradition of producing athletes. Hosting a leg of the national series there reflects the DAA's intention to spread its events beyond the Roseau area and to reach runners in the island's rural districts.
The race is the second of the 2026 Road Race Series, following the first event held earlier in the year. Details of the route, start time and registration arrangements are being handled by the association, which has encouraged athletes to come out and support the event.
Road races have become a regular feature of the DAA's annual calendar, alongside track and field meets and other development programmes. The series gives local runners the chance to test themselves over measured distances and to prepare for regional competition.
The association has consistently emphasised the importance of grassroots participation, and the Grand Bay race is expected to attract both seasoned competitors and newer runners from the surrounding communities.
