The Dominica Meteorological Service is advising residents that a mid- to upper-level trough is affecting the area, bringing mostly cloudy skies, periods of showers — moderate at times — and possible isolated thunderstorms, mainly during the morning.

In its weather update for Sunday 11th October 2026, the Met Service said the trough is expected to generate unsettled conditions across the island, with the heaviest activity concentrated in the morning hours. Showers could become moderate at times, and isolated thunderstorms remain possible.

People in areas at risk of flooding are being urged to exercise caution. The Met Service has asked residents in flood-prone communities to remain vigilant and to take the necessary precautions as the system moves across the island.

Dominica's mountainous interior and steep valleys make several communities vulnerable to flash flooding and landslides during periods of sustained rainfall. Residents in low-lying and river-adjacent areas are particularly exposed when showers persist, and the Met Service routinely advises them to monitor conditions closely.

The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) works alongside the Dominica Meteorological Service in issuing official alerts and guidance during weather events. Residents are reminded that official warnings and vigilance colours — green, yellow, orange and red — are issued to indicate the level of threat, and that these should be followed as a public-safety matter.

Motorists are also advised to take care on the roads, as heavy showers can reduce visibility and leave surfaces slippery, particularly on the island's winding rural routes. Drivers should allow extra time for journeys and avoid crossing flooded roads or fords.

Fishermen and other marine users should keep an eye on conditions, as thunderstorms can bring gusty winds and rough seas with little warning. Small craft operators are encouraged to check the latest marine forecasts before heading out.

The Met Service issues regular updates as conditions develop. Residents are encouraged to follow official channels for the latest information and to avoid relying on unverified reports circulated on social media.

Dominica remains in the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs until the end of November. While this particular system is not described as a storm threat, the season is a reminder for households to keep their emergency supplies and plans in order.

Sunday's forecast points to a wet start to the day, with conditions expected to ease later. Residents should plan accordingly and stay alert to further advisories from the Dominica Meteorological Service and the Office of Disaster Management.
