The Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission has sent prayers and well wishes to Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, who was admitted to hospital on Sunday night after experiencing mild discomfort, nausea and a headache.
Dr. Didacus Jules said he was deeply concerned to learn of the hospitalisation of Prime Minister Drew, and extended heartfelt wishes on behalf of the OECS Commission to the Prime Minister, his family and the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with him at this time,” Dr. Jules said in a statement.
Prime Minister Drew was admitted to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital in Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Doctors have confirmed that he is awake, alert and in stable condition.
A government statement said the Prime Minister has been advised that he be “transported abroad for specialised observation and precautionary monitoring,” and that “arrangements are currently underway to facilitate this.”
The statement did not specify the nature of the medical concern or the destination for the overseas care, but said the government would keep the public informed of any further developments.
The news of the Prime Minister’s hospitalisation has drawn expressions of concern from across the region, with the OECS Director General’s message being among the first official responses from a regional body.
Dr. Drew, a medical doctor by profession, has served as Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis since August 2022. He is also the political leader of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party.
