Sixteen families in Woodford Hill are to receive the keys to newly constructed three-bedroom homes, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced, as the Government continues to roll out its national housing programme.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Mr Skerrit said the homes are ready for handover, marking the latest stage of an initiative that has already delivered houses to communities across the island. The Prime Minister did not give a specific date for the ceremony, but indicated that the keys would be presented to the families shortly.
The Woodford Hill development forms part of a wider effort by the Government to provide affordable, storm-resistant housing for Dominicans. The programme has been a central plank of the administration's social policy, with similar handovers held in other villages in recent years. Each of the new units in Woodford Hill is a three-bedroom home, built to standards intended to withstand the hurricane season.
Woodford Hill, a village on the north-east coast, is among the communities that have benefited from the housing drive. The announcement was made during the Prime Minister's regular press briefing, where he also took questions on other matters of national interest.
The handover is expected to bring relief to the 16 families, some of whom have waited for years for secure housing.
