Hotelier Gregor Nassief, president-elect of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), has announced that he will stand as an independent candidate in Dominica's next general election. The announcement was made in Roseau on Friday, October 30.

The election is constitutionally due in early 2028, but it is widely expected to be held before that date. Nassief said he had made the decision public on the day he declared his candidacy, presenting himself as a candidate outside the established political parties.

Nassief leads the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, the regional body that represents hoteliers and tourism operators across the Caribbean. His election as president-elect places him at the centre of the regional tourism sector, an industry that is central to Dominica's economy, from hotels and resorts to the cruise season and ecotourism on the Nature Isle.

The move brings a business leader from the tourism sector into the national political arena ahead of a vote that will shape the island's direction on the economy, employment and investment. Further details of his platform were not set out in the material available at the time of publication.
