The Dominica Freedom Party has formally endorsed Mr. Daniel “Danny” Lugay, the United Workers Party candidate in the Roseau North Constituency by-election, urging voters across the constituency to support him at the polls on Monday, September 7, 2026.
In a statement announcing the decision, the DFP described the endorsement as a principled move grounded in the party’s commitment to democracy, good governance, the rule of law, accountability and country. The party stressed that it remains an independent political organisation and has not abandoned its principles, identity or political convictions.
“But there are moments in the life of a nation when country must come before party and people must be called upon to unite to do what is in the best interest of all citizens,” the statement said. “We believe that this is such a moment.”
The DFP said the people of Roseau North have an opportunity on election day to send a powerful message about the direction in which they want Dominica to go. The party called on voters in all communities within the constituency to turn out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right.
“This is not simply about Danny Lugay. It is about democracy. It is about accountability. It is about good governance. It is about respect for the Rule of Law. And ultimately, it is about Dominica and all its citizens,” the party stated.
The endorsement positions the DFP alongside the UWP in the contest for the Roseau North seat. The by-election is expected to feature Labour’s Ashma McDougall as a candidate, with the possibility of independent contenders also entering the race.
The DFP said it stands ready to work with democratic and opposition forces across Dominica to help restore confidence in the country’s institutions, strengthen democratic governance and put the interests of the Dominican people first.
The party also confirmed its participation in an ERC solidarity virtual rally held in support of Lugay on Monday, August 24, 2026.
In closing its statement, the DFP addressed voters directly: “Roseau North, the choice is yours. Vote for Democracy. Vote for Country. Vote Daniel ‘Danny’ Lugay. A vote for Danny Lugay is a vote for democracy.”
The party signed off reaffirming its commitment to democracy, good governance, the rule of law and country.
